The course, AOSL (Afaan oromoo as a second language), is fundamentally teaching conversational Afaan Oromoo. This session will prepare students for Afaan Oromoo 100.1 which is reading and writing. The course will start after the conversational course which is to gain basic understanding of Afaan Oromoo. The lessons are meant to uplift and encourage students to speak the language through exposure &practice.

Week 6 – Conversations Four
- Introducing parts of human body using a diagram
- Visiting a family & words related to relationships
- Visiting a patient & words related to visiting a patient.
- Common question words (what, where, when and how)
Week 7 – Conversations Five (market and stores)
- Words related to buying, selling, bargaining and returning items
- Words related to food items & clothing
Weak 8 – Introducing Oromo Alphabets and phonemes
About The Instructor
Dr. Abdulsemed Yousuf is a practicing medical doctor with educational background & Masters degree in Linguistics. He is an author, researcher and a writer with over 45 years of experience. Dr. Abdulsemed has published some of the first books about Afaan Oromoo grammar contributing significantly towards development and standardization of the language.
Some of his accomplishments include:
- Published “Seerlugaa Afaan Oromoo” (Grammar of Afaan Oromoo) the first of its kind in 1994. A comprehensive 2nd edition of the same book will be published and made available in due time
- Published “Glossary of Medical Terminologies (English-Oromo, Oromo-English)
- Published “History of Oromo Writing” and “Seenaa Barreeffama Afaan Oromoo”, both available on the internet for free
- Founding of “koree Waaltina Afaan Oromoo” (Committee for Standardization of Afaan Oromoo)
- Wrote various articles including “Arraattan Afaan Oromoo” (Dialects of Afaan Oromoo) available on ‘Wiirtuu”, publication of koree waltina Afaan Oromoo (Committee for Standardization of Afaan Oromoo).
- Gave Afaan Oromoo courses and lessons formally and informally over many years.
