Extra-judicial Killings Continue in East Guji Zone

OLLAA has received a credible report of the brutal extrajudicial killing of Mr. Dooyyo Gabaabinno Soraa in East Guji Zone, Nagelle Borana town on November 2, 2021.  According to the confirmed report, the late Mr. Dooyyo was 55 years old and a resident of the outskirts of Nagelle Borana. He was a pastoralist by profession. According to the report, on the 30th October fighting broke out between government soldiers and the Oromo Liberation Army on the outskirts of Negele Borena town. Our informants allege that during that early morning fight, government forces lost many of their soldiers in battle.

According to the report, that evening at around 6 pm local time, the government soldiers went back to the city and started going house to house searching for families whose children had joined the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA). Unfortunately, Mr. Dooyyo was not at home that evening and the government soldiers encountered him at the town center. The report alleges that the Oromo special forces arrested the late Mr. Dooyyo, accusing him of having links to the OLA due to one of his close family members joining the rebels recently.

The report alleged that he was immediately shot twice in the chest in front of his fellow residents.

In  many parts of Oromia,  there are serious allegations of police arresting unarmed civilians and gunning them down. According to allegations, neither the police service nor its watchdog agency are doing much to stop it. OLLAA calls on the Ethiopia Human Rights Commissions and other authorities to investigate these cases and hold any police officer responsible for unlawful use of force to account.
