Hawine Alemayehu Kube

Teacher

Hawine Alemayehu Kube was born in Ambo, a town in the Oromia region of Ethiopia. She was qualified in junior, middle, and high school education and earned her Ethiopian School Leaving Certificate in 2000. Hawine completed her Bachelor of Educational Degree in English from Bahir Dar University in 2004. Later she received her Master of Arts Degree in Linguistics from Addis Ababa University in 2007. In AAU, she explored in her research thesis the structure of nominal clauses in Afaan Oromoo within the framework of Chomsky’s (1993, 1995) Minimalist Program.

Hawine realized she wanted to be a teacher from an early age. She began her teaching career in Bahir Dar University, Humanities Faculty, in the English Department until 2012. Later she transferred to Adama Science and Technology University and continued working as a language instructor. In 2015, she relocated with the same position to a new university – Arsi University, Bokoji Campus. As an instructor, Hawine had utilized modern language teaching practices and methodologies and great experiences in classroom management and presentation skills in Afaan Oromoo and English.

Hawine decided to move to North America in search of more intellectual challenges and opportunities and in 2016 settled in Toronto, Canada. After her resettlement in Toronto, she took the initiative to work in the Community Services Association in the Child and Family Department as a Family Support Worker. Years later, she began her studies at George Brown College and graduated in Early Childhood Education. Now, she is engaged in planning and implementing creative and high-quality activities that support children’s developmental, emotional, cognitive, and psycho-social needs in a pre-school in Toronto.

Alongside these, Hawine has been serving as both Secretary and on the Social Committee of the Oda Nabe Ontario Association (ONOA) and assisted newcomers of the Oromo Community in having a smooth transition to new life in Canada.

Hawine is so excited to be part of the OLLAA Education Team and to obtain the position as Afaan Oromoo Educator, for the reason that Hawine wants to contribute her education, training and knowledge related to the development and educational needs of learners/trainees in all age groups.
