JOINT NGO RECOMMENDATIONS ON JUSTICE AND ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THE UNIVERSAL PERIODIC REVIEW OF ETHIOPIA:

On 31 March 2025, Oromo Legacy Leadership and Advocacy Association (OLLAA) joined international and regional civil society organizations in submitting a Shadow Report to the 83rd Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) on ongoing human rights violations in Ethiopia. OLLAA’s contribution focused on Oromia, documenting extrajudicial killings, mass arbitrary detention, forced recruitment of children, and abuses committed by security forces amid continuing conflict, despite claims of reform and peace efforts. The submission highlights persistent impunity, the failure of domestic accountability mechanisms, and Ethiopia’s departure from African Union transitional justice standards, while urging the ACHPR to press the government to end abuses, cooperate with international monitoring mechanisms, and establish credible, victim‑centered accountability processes.
