OLLAA CONDEMNS INSULTING AND INFLAMMATORY REMARKS TARGETING MUSLIM OROMOS

Falls Church, Virginia (12/06/2021) – On December 1, 2021, an individual appeared on Anaaf Multimedia and made numerous deeply disturbing and insulting comments pertaining to our Muslim Oromos. Among other things, this included derogatory remarks about the Prophet Mohammed, and suggestions that Muslim Oromos should be “cleaned out” from Oromia. OLLAA is deeply shocked by these comments and stands in solidarity with the Muslim Oromo community during this difficult time.

We have been greatly disturbed by the severity of these comments and acknowledge the deep hurt it has caused across the Muslim Oromo community. OLLAA emphasizes that this individual in no way represents the rest of the Oromo community: Muslim, Christian and Waaqeeffaanna Oromos are deeply offended by these remarks and reject them unequivocally. As a human rights organization, we fully support everyone’s right to freedom of religion or belief and stress the importance of combating all forms of religious intolerance. Such comments have no place in our community and OLLAA condemns them in the fullest terms possible.
