Falls Church, Virginia (10/12/2021) – The Oromo Legacy Leadership and Advocacy Association (OLLAA) congratulates Ms Julia Niblett on her appointment as Australian Ambassador to Ethiopia on October 6, 2021 by Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Marise Payne.
We welcome Ms Niblett’s appointment and look forward to working with her, particularly in her efforts to support the resolution of the spiralling conflict and regional instability in Ethiopia. Australia and Ethiopia have a rich long-standing relationship, with Australia home to a large and vibrant Oromo diaspora, and strong bilateral ties in the commercial sector.

OLLAA applauds the Australian Government for their commitment to support all efforts to build peace and stability in Ethiopia, and urges Ambassador Niblett to strongly condemn all ethnically targeted violence and help ensure all affected peoples are included in the dialogue to find a solution to the current crisis (including Tigray, Amhara, Benishangul-Gumuz, Afar, Oromia, Sidama, Somali, Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ Region (SNNPR), and Gambella).
OLLAA also applauds the humanitarian efforts made by the Australian Government and the work of Australian NGOs on the ground. In this moment of deep humanitarian crisis – with millions facing starvation, mass displacement and systemic and ethnically targeted violence – we urge Ambassador Niblett to support this process and ensure all affected Ethiopians are able to access this desperately needed humanitarian assistance, including those in southern Ethiopia.
OLLAA looks forward to supporting Ambassador Niblett in her work to secure peace and stability in Ethiopia.
OLLAA is an umbrella organization that represents dozens of Oromo communities around the world.
