Oromo Liberation Front: The residence of Dawud Ibsa is surrounded by armed forces (English Translation)
This is a BBC News Afaan Oromo from July 26th, 2020 Article>> translated into English by an OLLAA team member.
“The residence of the chairman of the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) Mr. Dawud Ibsa has been under surveillance by the Federal Police,” the public relation office had confirmed to BBC.
“The Federal Police have been camping around the residence. Moving in and out of the residence is under heavy restriction.” If someone comes out of the residence, they are immediately detained. The chairman was in prison for a day, three days ago,” says MR. Gada Olijirra from Addis Ababa.
“The chairman is under security confinement and his movement is restricted. Mr. Daud Ibsa does not move around the city to accomplish any task as usual.” The PR says, “ The family members of the chairman are not allowed to move in and out of the residence , “ the residence is located in the North Western part of the City of Addis Ababa. A part of the city which is called Gulale.
“Personal phone of Mr. Dawud Ibsa had been disconnected three days ago.” Confirms Mr. Olijiira.
Mr. Gada Olijiirra, who is aware of the situation at the residence, had spoken to the members of the police who informed him that they are watching the residence out of concern and to protect the chairman, but he doubts that it is a genuine concern to safeguard the chairman. “Since the chairman‘s phone had been disconnected, it has been impossible to directly communicate with him and find accurate information as usual, said Mr. Olijiira. “To restrict a free movement in and out of the residence does not imply any genuine and sincere concern by the government.” This does not seem to be a concern for Law and Order. Mr. Dawud Ibsa is under a strenuous and rough situation, it does not seem peaceful.”
Mr. Olijiira says such a move by the government is absolutely illegal and inappropriate. Since the assassination of Haacaaluu Hundessa, leaders of the OLF have been rounded up and their whereabouts has not been disclosed. The attorney for the imprisoned members of the front has no knowledge of their detention location, the charges against them, or their conditions in prison. The attorneys are very much concerned about the well being and safety of those individuals who have been taken by the police.
According to The Amenity International report last week, leading members of the OLF, Michael Boorana., Shiguxi Galataa, Lammii Beeyana and Colonel Gammachu Ayyaanaa were rounded up by police and they have been incommunicado. Another prominent member of the OLF Mr. Abdi Ragassa was detained last month and his attorney has no knowledge of his whereabouts.
SUPPORT OLLAA
Oromo Legacy Leadership And Advocacy Association (OLLAA) has stood alongside with voiceless and faceless victims killed, falsely arrested, and forced into exile to become refugees at homes and abroad by the thousands. We believe the Oromo people, like others, deserve to be heard and to be understood for all the sacrifices they have paid and are still paying. Right now, we are truly disturbed by the daily news of human rights violations coming from Oromia!
Our immediate quest is to continue to speak up & build a platform for Oromos who are being prosecuted. Donate to OLLAA as we:
