Falls Church, Virginia (2/16/2021) — OLLAA stands in solidarity alongside Ethiopian Oromo political leaders as they enter day 21 of hunger strikes. Just like the thousands of peaceful Ethiopians who rallied in protest this past weekend, OLLAA supporters, partners, and friends are gathering this morning to demand justice.
This rally, called “Starving for Justice,” seeks to raise awareness for the plight of those on hunger strikes, and to encourage elected officials to publicly recognize and endorse their demands to immediately:
- release all political prisoners;
- allow all political party offices to be reopened and to operate without interference; and
- end the mistreatment of the family members of political prisoners while they visit their loved ones.
Therefore, OLLAA calls on all Americans to:
- publicly condemn the Ethiopian government’s wrongful detention and persecution of Oromo political leaders;
- call their elected officials and demand a public statement condemning the Ethiopian government’s actions; and
- use their voices to raise awareness of the wide-scale state violence against the Oromo.
OLLAA urges all participants to maintain social distancing standards. For more details on the rally and the current human rights crisis in Ethiopia, please visit https://ollaa.org/hungerstrike.
