The Story of A Teacher (Feb. 11th, 2021) | Human of Oromia

Kitilaa Guddata was known to many in the small town of Skekela as a father, husband, and profound teacher. Guddata was born in 1989, in the same town that he would later be known as the local high school teacher. He loved his job, knowing that he was giving back to his community in the best way he could. Outside of the classroom, Guddata’s main focus in life was his wife and two children. He dedicated his days to the classroom and his evenings to his family, until one evening that changed it all.

On the evening of November 19th, 2020, Guddata and his family were enjoying a quiet evening when 10 police officers invaded their home. They detained Guddata without warrant or reason in front of his frightened family. Guddata’s wife pleaded with the police officers to stop and to even take her instead, but her cries were unnoticed. Guddata’s family frantically searched but came up empty until a couple of days later when they got word that his body, along with two others, was found by a river shot dead, execution style. When family members arrived at the scene, they reported that his hands were tied behind his back and it looked as though they used him for target practice. Guddata is survived by his wife and children.

This is the horrific story of Kitilaa Guddata.
